Tuna crabs wash ashore along OC Beaches
Mark Girardeau
Millions of tuna crabs show up along the Orange County Coastline this weekend with several hundred thousand of them washing up onto the beaches where their life comes to an end. In Newport Harbor, they are so abundant and can be easily seen swimming in the water. These small crustaceans are typically found in Mexican Waters and farther from the coast but with El Nino coming back for another summer, the warmer waters and currents brings these little guys into our shores. This is a good sign of another great whale watching and fishing season. Last summer was an amazing time to be on the ocean here with lots of blue and humpback whale sightings along with the catching of bluefin and yellowfin tuna.
